Nightlight Faceplates
Michael here from Huntsville Wire and Home. This is a project you can tackle yourself with basic tools and a little confidence. I’ll walk you through it.
Plug-in nightlights are the worst. They block the vacuum, toddlers pull them out of the wall, and they steal 50% of your usable power space just to light up a hallway.
The Fix: Upgrade to LED Faceplates (brands like SnapPower make great ones). They have tiny LED diodes built into the bottom of the plastic cover. You don’t have to wire anything. On the back of the plate, there are two metal prongs. When you screw the cover on, those prongs slide over the existing screw terminals on the sides of your outlet and draw power directly.
The Payoff: You get your outlets back, the LEDs last for 15 years, and it looks like a high-end custom home install. It takes one flathead screwdriver and 60 seconds per outlet.
If you take the old cover off and notice your outlets are cracked, painted over, or super loose, don’t put the new cover on yet. Call Huntsville Wire and Home to get your devices safely updated first.
