The Faraday Shake Light
You can pull electricity out of thin air if you know how to ask for it.
Most kids think power comes from the wall. Show them it comes from motion.
The Saturday Morning Project: Grab some small bare copper wire or magnet wire, a small LED, and a strong magnet.
-
Wrap the wire around a toilet paper roll (about 500 turns—let them count, it wears them out).
-
Sand the ends of the wire and tape them to the LED legs.
-
Drop the magnet inside and shake it like a Polaroid picture.
The Payoff: The LED lights up. No battery. No plug. Just physics. You just built a generator. You just taught them induction.
